Central A/C??? No such thing...

Acclimating to the "Italian" way of life has been a small challenge. I accept the fact that it takes 2-3 hours to do a load of wash...I accept that I have no dishwasher...I accept that I can't turn on my microwave simultaneously with the dryer or we'll lose power...I even accept (but do not like) that our U.S. dollar is only worth .69 (give or take) of a euro. However, the one thing I'm struggling to accept is the lack of adequate A/C.

In the picture below, you'll notice a small unit above the door. That unit is supposed to cool our entire three story house...yeah, right! We go as long we can before turning on this unit because supposedly it's very expensive to run. However, A/C is warranted when the temps are 80-90+ with humidity so high that your floors are wet. No wonder the Italians have mold problems! Don't they realize central A/C would cool and circulate the air, which would eliminate the mold? Guess not! It's a hot day...can you tell???

Hey sister....I'm with you on this....central air is a luxury I will never take for granted ever ever again. This humidity is killing us all the way down in Vicenza too..we have three air conditioners which we try not to run, but at night forget about it they are on. Can't wait to see how many Euro's that electric bill will be...I guess next month we'll find out the shocking results..but in the end the little A/C we have might just be worth every penny..it sure beats melting in your own home....ciao
