Derby Race
I went to my nephew's Derby Race yesterday. I gotta tell you, the Boy Scouts have come a long way with this race. The track electronically calculates the speed and order in which the cars cross the finish line. And by the way, the difference between two cars can sometimes be just fractions of a second. Each car races in 5 heats, and there were 55 cars total. It took about an hour and a half, but we finally got through all the heats. It was actually kind of fun. They had 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each pack, and then 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for the entire troop. Logan took 2nd in his pack and 9th overall...not bad. We were proud of him. They also had awards for best car design and such. Logan's car was all black and he sanded it down flat. I thought it looked a little like a black graham cracker, but I didn't tell him that. :) Here's some pics from our afternoon.
Top of the track. Five cars raced at a time...they were simultaneously released by an electronic button.
